Honoring Juneteenth 2026: The Story Behind the Freedom Fighters Design

On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, bringing news that would change history forever. Nearly two years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, over 250,000 African Americans finally learned they were free. That day became known as Juneteenth Freedom Day.

More than 160 years later, that moment still matters. It deserves to be remembered, honored, and carried forward.

That's exactly why we created the Freedom Fighters design.

The Names in the Rings

Every element of this design tells a story. The rings that surround the design are not decorative—they are a roll call of courage.

The outer ring honors the male pioneers who led the fight for freedom and equality: Frederick Douglass, Malcolm X, Medgar Evers, Martin Luther King Jr., and Booker T. Washington.

The inner ring pays homage to the women who blazed those same trails: Harriet Tubman, Ida B. Wells, Rosa Parks, and Sojourner Truth. Their presence in the design is deliberate because the fight for freedom has always been a collective effort.

The Black Power Fist

At the center of the design stands the Black Power Fist — a symbol of unity, strength, and resilience. It is a beacon and a call to action. A reminder that the power within the community is unbreakable.

The Colors

Nothing in this design is accidental. The colors speak their own language:

⚫ Black — the people and their resilience
🔴 Red — the bloodshed in the struggle
🟡 Yellow — optimism and justice
🟢 Green — a hopeful future
